Youboat provides essential life battery change services for Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) and Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs), ensuring these critical devices remain operational in emergencies. EPIRBs and PLBs are vital safety tools that transmit distress signals to rescue authorities, assisting in locating individuals in perilous situations, particularly at sea or in remote areas. Regular battery maintenance is crucial, as a failing battery can compromise the device’s reliability when it’s needed most.

Youboat's service ensures that the batteries in these devices are replaced with precision and care, maintaining their effectiveness and compliance with safety regulations. This proactive approach not only extends the lifespan of the beacons but also provides peace of mind to users, knowing that their safety devices are ready and reliable in case of an emergency.

 

The Process

  • Add your chosen service to your basket and check out.
  • Spares Marine will then contact you with the address to send your PLB.
  • Upon receipt, your PLB will receive a full inspection.
  • Light Pen interrogation for unique HEX identification
  • The Battery will be changed, plus the Top Cover and Antenna Assembly
  • Counters for run time, GPS long tests etc will be reset
  • Tests will then be carried out to check 406, 121.5 and strobe functionality
  • Light Pen programming to ensure the unique HEX ID is still programmed
  • Water Test, to ensure the PLB does not leak with its new seals
  • Your PLB is then returned by Registered Mail

The typical turn around time for this servicing varies from as little as 24 hours, to up to 1 - 2 weeks. For urgent servicing, please Contact Us prior to placing the order.

Units can also be dropped off and returned into one of our locations, however this can add an extra 1 - 2 working days.

 

I need my lifejacket(s) servicing - what do I do?

Please fill and submit a lifejacket service customer request form and we will get back to within 2 business days with further information and instructions. 

Once you have filled and submitted this form, you will be contacted within 2 business days confirming your request. You will then be provided with further information and instructions regarding your service. Servicing usually takes 5-7 days depending on factors such as how many lifejackets, remedial work required, how the lifejackets were sent. However, it is not guaranteed you will get your lifejacket(s) back within that timeframe. 

The cost of a lifejacket service is £15 (inc VAT) per lifejacket - which covers the testing alone. If your lifejacket(s) have failed testing, it will incur a handling/labour/report fee of £3.60 (inc VAT) per lifejacket. You will be contacted with details as to what factors have lead to a failed test result and a revised fee for necessary repairs. These repairs will only be commenced once you have agreed to the additional payments. 
If your lifejacket(s) have failed testing, you can request to have the jacket returned or disposed of.
