International Hard Antifouling

The International Hard Antifouling is an effective antifouling paint designed for fast powerboats, propellers, outdrive, stern gear and the waterline to protect against fouling organisms such as slime, aquatic plants and animals. The International Hard Antifouling creates a hard finish which is suitable for burnishing to provide a smooth finish.

The International Hard Antifouling is suitable for professional and consumer application onto vessels going into fresh or salt water, providing protection against fouling organisms for up to one year. This antifouling is suitable for all substrates including aluminium.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the coverage of the International Hard Antifouling?

  • Brush/Roller (theoretical): 10m²/L per coat
  • Brush/Roller (practical): 9m²/L per coat
  • Spray (theoretical): 5m²/L per coat
  • Spray (practical): 3m²/L per coat

How many coats of International Hard Antifouling should I do?

The number of coats that you should do depend on your chosen application method. For brushes and rollers, it is recommended to apply 2 coats with a DFT of 50 microns per coat, making a total DFT of 100 microns.

For airless sprays, it is recommended to apply 1 coat with a DFT of 100 microns.

It is recommended to always apply an extra stripe coat in areas of high wear such as shines, rubbers, stern gear and any leading edges.

How long does the International Hard Antifouling take to dry?

  • Touch dry at 5℃ (41℉): 1 hour
  • Touch dry at 15℃ (59℉): 45 minutes
  • Touch dry at 23℃ (73.4℉): 30 minutes
  • Touch dry at 35℃ (95℉): 20 minutes

How long should I wait between overcoating with the International Hard Antifouling?

  • 16 hours at 5℃ (41℉)
  • 10 hours at 15℃ (59℉)
  • 6 hours at 23℃ (73.4℉)
  • 4 hours at 35℃ (95℉)

How do I prepare a surface for the International Hard Antifouling?

Previously antifouled surface (in good condition):

  • All fouling and contamination must be thoroughly removed including leached layer.
  • Use high pressure fresh water wash (3000 psi/ 207 bar) and/or scraping and wet sanding with typically 80-120 grade paper.
  • Do not dry sand.
  • If old antifouling is incompatible or unknown, seal with suitable International Paint barrier/sealer coat.

Previously antifouled surface (in poor condition):

  • Remove all traces of existing antifouling.

Priming:

  • GRP: prime with suitable primer for osmosis protection.
  • Steel/Iron/Wood/Lead: prime with anti-corrosive primer.

How do apply the International Hard Antifouling?

  1. Thoroughly stir until product is mixed into a uniform consistency.
  2. Use International Thinners No. 3 if thinning is required, up to 10% to assist application properties at higher ambient temperatures.
  3. Care must be taken not to overwork the paint.
  4. Ensure correct DFT is applied.
  5. True colour with develop after immersion
