EPIRBs & PLBs

EPIRBs (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons) and PLBs (Personal Locator Beacons) are vital safety devices used to alert search and rescue services during emergencies. EPIRBs are primarily used in maritime settings and are designed to send a distress signal when a vessel is in trouble, providing the location to rescuers via satellite. They are typically registered to a specific boat and are automatically activated when submerged in water.

On the other hand, PLBs are portable and can be used in various environments, including hiking, skiing, or boating. They are manually activated and are registered to an individual rather than a vessel. Both devices operate on the 406 MHz frequency, ensuring global coverage, and significantly increase the chances of rescue by pinpointing the exact location of the person or vessel in distress.
