International Schooner Varnish is suitable for all internal and external wood. A traditional, high quality Tung oil based yacht varnish for classic yachts and motor boats It has a high performance formulation which contains UV absorbing compounds which give you a long lasting finish. It is also easy to apply and gives a deep, rich gloss.

How do I prepare a surface for the International Schooner Yacht Varnish?
Previously Varnished (good condition)
- Clean with International Yacht Line Super Cleaner.
- Sand smooth with 280-320 grade abrasive paper.
- Remove sanding dust with a dust wipe.
Previously Varnished (poor condition)
- Remove all previous coatings.
Bare Wood
- Sand smooth with 80-180 grade abrasive paper.
- Sand again with 280 grade abrasive paper.
- Clean surface by dusting, brushing or wiping.
- If wiping with solvent, allow to dry completely.
How many coats of International Schooner Yacht Varnish should I apply?
If you are varnishing previously coated wood, it is recommended to apply 4 coats at a DFT (Dry Film Thickness) of 30 microns per coat, or alternatively a WFT (Wet Film Thickness) of 61 microns.
If you are varnishing bare wood, it is recommended to thin the first coat by 10% using International Thinners No.1 (available as 500ml and 1L), followed by 4 to 6 coats of un-thinned International Schooner Yacht Varnish at a DFT (Dry Film Thickness) of 30 microns per coat, or alternatively a WFT (Wet Film Thickness) of 61 microns.
